PRINCIPALS’ NOTICE
Tena koutou whanau ma – warm greetings to everyone
He mihi nui, he mihi mahana hoki ki a koutou katoa mo te timatatanga o tenei tau hou – whakamoemititia te Atua Kaha Rawa. Warm greetings to everyone as we begin the new year together – let us walk together on this journey with the Lord.
Coming back from an extended break with whanau and loved ones is always a bit of a challenge – particularly to get back into routines and patterns but we have been excited by the ‘full-on’ return to school by our rangatahi and whanau. What a great turnout we have had in this first week.
I am very pleased to report that we have a full school roll – this is great news for going forward because it means we can hit the start line running and not experience too many disruptions to the learning programmes. Obviously this means limited space for new enrolments however, we encourage any whanau considering Christian Education to come in and talk to us about how we can work together in this kura.
There is still the dark cloud of COVID hanging over us as we begin the year and there are many questions whanau have regarding how we are managing the impacts of the pandemic in our school. Questions such as; “Does my child have to be vaccinated to come to school?” or “Does my child have to wear a mask in the classroom?” are the most common. To answer these questions we work from the understanding that it is parents who will make the decisions about vaccinations and mask wearing. Children do not have to be vaccinated to attend school however many whanau have taken the option to have their children vaccinated as a way to have some protection/reassurance should an outbreak of the virus emerge in the community or school. We have all heard that mask wearing for Year 4 and up is a requirement when indoors at school and again, that is a decision for whanau to come to terms with. We will be working with our students to promote safe and hygienic practices at school – sanitising, washing hands, keeping surfaces clean, observing safe coughing/sneezing habits and physical distancing and mask wearing as appropriate. In saying that however, we see the most important aspect of our role is to focus and enable students to make sensible choices about health and safety for themselves and others, rather than to coerce or enforce. Overall, we want to work together to look out for each other united, not divided. My recommendation is to prayerfully consider these matters and proceed on the basis of your convictions and conscience.
With COVID in the region there is a fair chance that we will experience infection in our own community and school. We are working to make sure our responses will enable students to keep learning and it is possible we would have Distance Learning options in the mix during times when isolation was required. By the end of this week we will have the Chromebooks allocated to our students from Year 3 up and we will have implemented a system where our senior students take these devices home each afternoon (remembering to bring them back to school the next day ). Our learning programmes are in general, all posted on-line and we are working with students to set up their learning routines so that they are able to access this material from home should the need arise.
We continue to be part of the Lunches in Schools scheme and are grateful for this incredible support for our young ones. We gather together for kai at 11:00am with all of our students and staff eating together. Please let us know if there are any new dietary requirements that we have not been informed about.
Teachers will be communicating with you through various platforms – Facebook, Class Dojo, email – look out for info from them, and definitely get in touch with us if you have any questions, concerns or comments.
That’s about it for now.
Blessings to everyone
Nga mihi mahana

STATIONERY PURCHASES
PRIMARY NOTICE
Dear Whānau,
From year 1 to year 8 we shall be setting a devotional homework task every Tuesday that will need to be completed and returned to school on Thursday. Tasks will vary according to the age of each child.
The task will involve a short biblical story that will have been introduced to the children on Tuesday in school. Questions about the story will need to be answered as full sentences and require reflective thought and consideration before answering. We encourage you spend some time with your child reading and reflecting with them to develop their foundational knowledge in Christ.
The homework answers shall be reviewed and discussed as a set lesson in each class on Thursday.
Taken from Lesson 33 – God Takes Elijah to Heaven
Example question: How did God take Elijah to Heaven?
Modelled answer: God had taken Elijah to Heaven in the wind.
