THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Luke 6:31
PRINCIPAL’S NOTICE
Tena koutou whanau ma, warm greetings to everyone.
New Building Project
You will no doubt have noticed the building works underway for our new classrooms. We are very excited about the possibilities and opportunities that this new facility will present to us. Planning for how we will deploy the new spaces is well under way, with major consideration being given to a ‘middle school’ setup for Year 7 to 10 classes. There is likely to be a digital technology space and well as spaces for performing arts and integrated curriculum studies. We understand that the buildings will be ready for us to occupy by the start of the new year – please give thanks for God’s provision and pray for His favour throughout the project.
Attendance
Thank you whanau for continuing to support our drive for excellent attendance. Our attendance rate is slowly creeping up and last week was sitting at over 80% for the year. This is still a fair way off our 90% target but it is moving in the right direction.
One of the challenges at the moment is to support our profession to attract and to keep teachers during the industrial actions that are being taken, but still be able to have students attending school during the Strike Action. To this end I have decided that students are not to be rostered home on Strike Days and instead are to come to school and be supported in their learning every day. We will manage this appropriately through the use of relief staff as necessary. Please pray that there is a successful resolution to the industrial action soon.
Upcoming Events
We have two major events taking place before the end of the term. The first is the trip to National Park to the Outdoor Pursuits Centre (OPC) for a group of senior students. This trip away is an annual event for our Year 13 (and some year 12) students which is designed to engage them in team and personal challenges in the great outdoors, to build resilience and leadership. The trip is taking place in Week 9 (18th to 23rd June).
The second event is a Christian Kapa Haka celebration in Rotorua, held over the first weekend of the school holidays. Our team will travel down to Rotorua on Friday 30th June and return on Sunday 2nd July. This event is part of an important ministry that the school engages and we are pleased to have been invited to this event once again. For whanau wishing to meet us there the event is being held at Equippers Church, 324 Malfroy Road, Rotorua on Saturday 1st July – time to be confirmed.
