THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE

God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1 John 5:11-12

 PRINCIPAL’S NOTICE

Tena koutou whanau ma – warm greetings to everyone.

Welcome back to this final term of 2023 – this is a nine week term and promises to be full and vibrant.

I would like to point out a number of important events that are going to take place this term and encourage you to mark some of these in your calendars and be ready to come and support our rangatahi when the time comes.

Firstly we have announced previously that we are running an NCEA evening this Thursday for whanau and students where we will be briefly outlining NCEA courses for 2024 and then making ourselves to answer questions after an initial presentation. This is to help whanau make more sense of the changes to NCEA that are being implemented nation-wide and also to see how we will be embracing these changes in our kura.

NCEA External Exams begin on the 6th November for our Year 11 to 13 students. We would like for our senior students to keep coming to school during this time rather than taking ‘Study Leave’ – this will help us give guidance to them as they make final preparations for their exams.

From the 13th to the 24th November there will be regional Teacher Only Days for schools to continue to build their readiness for curriculum and NCEA changes – we have chosen November 24th for the TOD for our school.

This term, under David Prickett’s leadership, the Year 9 & 10 students are trialling an integrated learning programme founded in the Technology Curriculum. This will culminate in a ‘Market Day’ type of event on the 30th November and we invite whanau and friends to come along and see what the students have been learning and doing – more info to come about this.

Also on the 30th will be the ‘Certificates of Recognition Assembly” for our Year 9 to 13 students, followed by the issuing of their Reports on Friday 1st December.

Excitingly, we have a team travelling to Rotorua to take part in the Northland Secondary Schools Tag Tournament and we look forward to hearing about their experiences there. In this last week of term we hold the Junior School (Year 1 to 8) Certificates of Recognition Assembly on the 6th December followed by the whole school Beach Day and finally Prize Giving for our Year 1 to 8 students on Friday 8th December.

International Reps

We are delighted to welcome back Atlanta Nordstrand who has been in the USA participating in a Basketball series there. Her team was named “Under the Rim” and nicknamed “Ngapuhi Muskets”. Atlanta discussed recently that the tournament was ‘intense’ and ‘high pressure’. The teams they played were very, very fit and agile but noting the NZ team put up a decent challenge, winning one game. Atlanta noted the importance of building fitness into the training regime. Other highlights of the trip (located in the State of California, were a visit to the theme parks and of course different food experiences.

No reira e te whanau, he mihi mahana tenei ki a koutou katoa.

David Rogers.

Parents and caregivers should also have received an email of this information sent Wednesday 20 Sept. Please discuss with your rangatahi their subject choices for next year as these are important decisions.

Next term hui:

Contact Yvonne Vujcich if you have any questions.

GREAT NEWS! New Teacher Appointment, Mrs Jitka Hyde.

We are also delighted to say that we have appointed a very experienced senior Ag/Hort, Physics and Mathematics teacher, Mrs Jitka Hyde. She will be starting at the beginning of next year and we are looking forward to working with her and welcoming her to our whanau.

We are sure the students will thrive in their NCEA Level 3 learning and be well prepared for university, tertiary education in these fields.

MARKET DAY

This term we are piloting a new cross-curricular project: Blessing Others.
Students will be designing and creating a product that can bless others. They need to market it using a design brief, create a website/blog to explain their process and justify their decisions as the design process happens. We have organised for speakers to come talking to students about traditional methods that Maori used to bless one another as well as focusing on the biblical word and how we are commissioned to bless others.
The pilot project will take place throughout the term and will be the primary focus during Bible lessons, Art, Social Science, Electives and Technology.

WHAT ARE ATTENDANCE DUES?

The Ministry of Education does not fund building related costs at our School. Attendance Dues are only used to pay for building related costs. They can not be used for any other purposes.  Paying Attendance Dues is a condition of enrolment for all students attending our School. Attendance Dues are compulsory – there is a legal requirement for parents and caregivers to pay Attendance Dues under the Education and Training Act 2020. They are not a donation.
