THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10

Principles Notice

Tena koutou whanau ma – warm greetings to everyone

Genesis 8:11 And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth…

In a recent Devotion, I read this verse with its commentary and was warmed in the thought that the dove came back to Noah in the evening. The idea is that we come to the One who gives us shelter and rest, the one in whom is our provision and protection – thank you Jesus. As we begin the new year, let us be quick to come to Christ for all of our needs.

Welcome back everyone. It was great to see so many back on our first day – we opened with a warm welcome to our new whanau and students and we are already back into the swing of things.

With new beginnings comes new opportunities and this year is no exception. As we move into this new year I would like to signal a significant change to how we communicate and report to whanau. You will remember that we introduced the Skool-Loop app and we now have 155 whanau subscribed, which is really helpful for us to be able to keep in touch – we will certainly be relying on this app to keep you up to date more.

Adding to Skool-Loop we are connecting up our Reports to Parents programme and intend to be much more regular in our reporting on achievement, progress, engagement in learning and attendance – in fact, we aim to report to you every three weeks once we have finished building the system.

Basically you will receive a report either through Skool-Loop, email or if needed paper copy once every three weeks. The information will be in an easy to read format giving you a quick snapshot for your child. There will be direct links to classroom teacher emails for whanau to get in touch and of course, staff will be available to meet with you should you wish to.

Our normal parent interviews will also take place in Mid-Year.

Once we have the system in place and you have had the chance to receive a few reports we will then survey you about the system to get any feedback that might help to improve it.

Camp

Next week we take the Year 7 & 8 and the Year 12 & 13 students to Urupukapuka Island for a 3 day camp. Most of the planning and permissions were completed last term however we are still waiting for a few late permissions to come back in – please can we have those asap?

Chinese whanau

Similar to last year, we have a small group of people visiting us from China. There are two students we need to billet out along with two adults – if you would like to help, please contact me asap. The need billeting from Wednesday 5th (afternoon) to Sunday 9th.

School Closed

Please remember that school is closed for Friday February 7th.

Looks Like a New School

Don’t the buildings look great with their new refreshed look. Huge thanks to the Proprietors, the Board and to Monty and his team for this wonderful mahi.

We are looking for a couple of parent and whānau volunteers to help with the cooking at our upcoming Primary school camp on the 12-14th March. Your support would be greatly appreciated in preparing meals and ensuring our tamariki are well-fed and ready for all the camp activities!

If you are available to help, even for part of the time, please let Whaea Jess know by 10th February so we can organize a roster. Pop into Room 5 (Year 1/2 room) or email [email protected]

WHAT ARE ATTENDANCE DUES?

The Ministry of Education does not fund building related costs at our School. Attendance Dues are only used to pay for building related costs. They can not be used for any other purposes.  Paying Attendance Dues is a condition of enrolment for all students attending our School. Attendance Dues are compulsory – there is a legal requirement for parents and caregivers to pay Attendance Dues under the Education and Training Act 2020. They are not a donation.
