Finally, all of you, be like-minded,

 PRINCIPAL’S NOTICE

Tena koutou whanau ma – warm greetings to everyone

It is great to see the Spring season beginning to make its mark – it certainly signals that warmer days are just around the corner.

At this time of the year our students in the senior school are rounding out their learning and preparing for external examinations that start in early November. The plan is for them to have finished all of their internal work/assessments by the end of this term as much as possible so they are able to focus on reviewing and revising for the externals.

When we do get to the external examinations, and providing a student has completed all of their internal work, we will be asking students to keep connected with their subject teacher right up until the day of their subject exam. For most students this will mean they keep attending school each day until their exams have finished.

School Enrolments

As you are aware, our school roll is full, along with a waiting list for new enrolments to come in. Currently we are in the process of identifying the students who will be leaving us at the end of the year – mainly our Year 13s so we can make room for new enrolments.

In the fourth week of next term we will start the process for students on the waiting list to be enrolled. This will enable the school to be ready for a solid start in 2025. We will contact whanau who have students on the waiting list soon to begin this process.

As with previous notifications, if you are considering enrolling students at the school, or if you know of anyone who is interested in that, please get in touch with the school early so we can register your interest on the waiting list.

Attendance Rewards Trip

Last week I sent letters home with students who have maintained attendance rates of 90% and above (about 1/3 of our students). It is really pleasing to see this great improvement in attendance – I know we are all aware of how strongly student achievement, progress and well-being is linked to this statistic.

We do still have a number of students struggling to develop consistency in attendance. There are many and varied reasons why this is the case, and we are sensitive to individual circumstances as we work with whanau to support strong attendance. Please continue to help us in this area – my encouragement is to ask you to make it hard for students to stay at home when they are fit and well enough to attend school .

Cellphones

Just a reminder that our school fully complies with the requirement for our students to have “Phones away for the day”. This means that students are not to have access to cellphones at school during the school day.

For those students who need their phones for home contact after school, we understand that important need and ask that in those circumstances, phones are brought into the office first thing in the morning an collected at the end of the school day. Unfortunately we are still needing to remind students about this new aspect of school life.

Psalm 133 1

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down upon the collar of his robes.

Blessings to all

David Rogers

Senior students of AgriHort and Education for Sustainability went back to the farm to check the pest traps that they had set up last week. Here are photos of a possum in SA trap, possum in leg hold trap, wild cat in cage trap. There were no rats caught in triple trap wooden box. Please note the leg hold trap and cage trap were set up a night before our farm visit. These traps must be attended by a trapper within the next day.

WHAT ARE ATTENDANCE DUES?

The Ministry of Education does not fund building related costs at our School. Attendance Dues are only used to pay for building related costs. They can not be used for any other purposes.  Paying Attendance Dues is a condition of enrolment for all students attending our School. Attendance Dues are compulsory – there is a legal requirement for parents and caregivers to pay Attendance Dues under the Education and Training Act 2020. They are not a donation.
